Domino’s Pizza has announced plans to close more than 200 locations worldwide later this year, leaving many wondering if any Minnesota stores will be impacted. The popular pizza chain, known for its quick service and wide variety of toppings, will be closing underperforming stores, but Minnesotans can rest easy—none of the state’s 143 Domino’s locations are on the chopping block.
The closures, set to occur between April and June, will primarily affect Domino’s restaurants in Japan, with 172 stores slated for closure. Other international locations in Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Cambodia may also be shuttered. However, according to reports, none of the closures are expected to affect the 143 Domino’s stores in Minnesota, which includes multiple locations in cities such as Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, Rochester, and Mankato.
Domino’s, which started in the 1960s and expanded internationally in the 1980s, remains one of America’s favorite pizza chains. A Harris poll conducted last fall found that pizza is the nation’s most popular food, followed by steak and hamburgers.
While Minnesota pizza enthusiasts have nothing to fear for now, the closures of international stores are part of a strategy to save the company approximately $9.4 million.
