Four women are facing charges after a violent altercation early Tuesday at the Westlake home of Thomas Kess, owner of the popular Angelo’s Pizza, according to Westlake police and court records.
Officers responded to Kess’ residence on Devonshire Oval following 911 calls reporting a woman had been attacked inside and had broken a window to escape. First responders transported the woman to the hospital, where she was treated for superficial wounds.
“Our officers surrounded the house and attempted to contact those inside,” Westlake Police Captain Jerry Vogel said. “Initially, we received no response, although we could see people moving inside the house. We then deployed SWAT personnel and apparatus to assist.”
SWAT officers successfully extracted the occupants and arrested three women believed to be involved in the assault. Video footage recorded inside the home captured multiple women attacking a woman on the ground, while Kess can be heard shouting for them to stop.
According to Vogel, Kess was with the victim when five other women entered the home and began the assault. He added that the women did not forcibly enter but were either let in or entered voluntarily.
As the investigation continued, police filed charges against a fourth woman. Authorities noted that some individuals fled the scene before officers arrived.
“Of the people we were able to detain from the house, three women were charged that night,” Vogel said.
Kess is not facing charges in connection with the incident. Court records show he does not have a criminal history. Attempts by 3News to reach Kess by phone and in person were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, neighbors have voiced growing concerns over ongoing disturbances at the property.
Neighbor Michael Farraj described Tuesday’s incident as part of a troubling pattern. “I understand that problems happen in homes, but this has gotten beyond normal,” Farraj said. “It’s dangerous for neighbors, for the community — we have children here.”
Farraj said he awoke to the sound of breaking glass and saw a bleeding woman limping across the street, pleading for help. He also recounted a previous incident on December 29, when a woman fled Kess’ home and was pursued by a man later arrested for domestic assault. Ring doorbell footage from that incident shows the man striking the woman and dragging her by the hair.
Westlake police call logs reveal officers have responded to 38 calls involving Kess’ property since 2015, many related to drugs and alcohol.
“In these incidents, the individuals involved tend to vary,” Vogel said. “The only constant factor is the address — it revolves around this residence.”
Farraj said he fears the violence could escalate further.
“We’ve had two young women come to my home in distress in just a few months,” he said. “Is it going to come to the point where somebody actually gets killed?”
