A 46-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly secretly filming female employees at a popular pizza shop in Pawcatuck, Connecticut, over a period of three years. Michael Arruda was taken into custody by Stonington police on April 16, 2025, and is facing multiple charges of voyeurism with malice. The charges stem from accusations that Arruda placed his phone in the bathroom of Pizza Lady, a local restaurant, to record the victims without their knowledge.
According to authorities, Arruda used his phone to secretly film nine different women between 2021 and 2024. The first known incident occurred in March 2021, and the most recent incident reportedly took place in September 2024. The recordings allegedly span several years, but it was only recently that the crimes were discovered.
Arruda’s arrest came after a thorough investigation by local police. The discovery of the videos has raised concerns about privacy violations in the workplace, particularly in spaces like bathrooms where employees have a reasonable expectation of privacy. Stonington police have not revealed how the investigation began or how the recordings were uncovered.
During his initial court appearance in New London, Arruda was charged with 12 counts of voyeurism with malice. He was released on a $50,000 bond following his arraignment. Arruda is expected to return to court on June 4, 2025, for further legal proceedings.
As the case unfolds, authorities are urging anyone who may have further information about the incidents or similar cases to come forward. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, and more charges could potentially be added as more victims are identified.
This case has drawn attention to the issue of workplace privacy and the alarming potential for abuse with the widespread use of technology. In the wake of Arruda’s arrest, local businesses and employees are being reminded of the importance of safeguarding personal and professional boundaries in the workplace.
The Pizza Lady shop, which has not been named as a defendant in the case, has declined to comment publicly on the matter. However, the restaurant is reportedly cooperating with authorities as the investigation continues.
