Houston police have confirmed that a grand jury will convene to consider the case of a pizza delivery driver who shot and killed an individual purportedly attempting to rob him at gunpoint.
The incident unfolded early Sunday in the South Side neighborhood of Houston, as the driver was making a delivery to an apartment complex located at 3322 Yellowstone Boulevard around 12:40 a.m. According to Houston Police Department spokesperson Shay Awosiyan, two individuals confronted the driver and demanded cash, with one of them brandishing a firearm.
In response to the threat, the pizza delivery driver reportedly drew his own weapon and fired at the armed individual, resulting in fatal injuries, as conveyed by Awosiyan. The other individual involved in the altercation fled the scene, their identity remaining unknown.
The delivery driver cooperated with law enforcement upon their arrival, remaining at the scene to provide a statement, Awosiyan confirmed.
At present, authorities are unable to ascertain whether the individuals involved in the attempted robbery were residents or customers of the apartment complex.
As the investigation progresses, the case will be brought before a grand jury to evaluate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
