This weekend, Sunny’s Pizza on Solomon Street is set to host a lively pizza party in collaboration with the retro Melbourne establishment, Leonardo’s Pizza Palace.
For Adelaide locals, Sunny’s is a beloved spot renowned for its unabashedly kitschy ambiance, ’80s pop culture vibes, refreshing beverages, and delectable pizza offerings. Similarly, Leonardo’s has carved out a niche in Melbourne’s culinary scene since its inception in December 2018, garnering praise for its nostalgic yet satisfying Italian pizzas and cozy, carpeted interior.
Having previously brought a taste of South Australia to Melbourne with a successful takeover, Sunny’s is now reciprocating the gesture by welcoming Leonardo’s for a special event this weekend.
The “Famiglia Feeling” pop-up event kicks off at 3pm on Sunday, May 19, promising an exceptional one-off menu designed to banish any lingering Sunday scaries.
The beverage selection showcases Victorian flair, featuring cocktails such as a tropical spritz crafted with Melbourne Gin Company dry gin, Aperol, and green grape, alongside the unique Pizza Negroni infused with “erbs n spices.” Wine enthusiasts can indulge in offerings like a reisling from Harcourt in central Victoria, as well as a skin-contact fiano, sangiovese, and chilled red from Heathcote.
A tempting array of snacks awaits, including cacio e pepe polenta and stracciatella with smoked mushrooms, ‘nduja, creamy roasted leek, and fried rosemary panagratto. Pizza aficionados will delight in options like pepperoni and zucchini with ricotta and hot honey, a tantalizing pork and saltbush variant with fermented fennel, and a flavorful garlic prawn and squid-ink salami accompanied by green caper sauce and garlic oil. For dessert, guests can savor the timeless delight of tiramisu.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, Edd Fisher, one half of Wax’o Paradiso, will grace the event with a guest DJ set, ensuring that the vibes remain high throughout the evening.
