A popular kitchen appliance has been urgently recalled nationwide due to a critical flaw that poses a serious safety hazard.
The Morphy Richards electric pizza maker, a countertop appliance sold at department stores across the country, has been flagged by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) for its potential to cause electric shock, leading to severe injury or even fatality.
The recall, issued last week by the ACCC, highlights a concerning issue with the appliance’s construction. Specifically, an incorrect sealant near the heating element poses the risk of short-circuiting, significantly increasing the likelihood of electric shock.
The ACCC advises consumers to cease using the product immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Available nationally and online from February 3 to April 8, the pizza maker was retailed by various outlets including Harvey Norman, Domayne, Bi Rite, Betta Electrical, Joyce Mayne, Kappel, Leading Appliances, Retravision, and TVSN.
Glen Dimplex, the supplier responsible for a range of heating products, including gas and electric variants, also markets the Morphy Richards range of kitchen appliances, underlining the scope of the recall.
This urgent action underscores the importance of prioritizing consumer safety and vigilance in identifying and addressing potential hazards associated with household appliances.
