A beloved pizza shop in Durham, renowned for its authentic New York-style pizza slices, has reopened after a temporary closure earlier this year.
Brooklyn Pizza Slice, which has been hailed as serving the “best pizza in Durham” since 2016, has now established a new permanent stall in Durham Market. The shop, formerly located at 3 North Road in Durham’s city center, was forced to close its doors in January 2024.
Despite facing challenges such as pandemic lockdowns and the ongoing North Road bus station redevelopment, Brooklyn Pizza Slice maintained a loyal following with its crispy base pizzas and unique flavor combinations, earning a cult status among the student population.
The decision to shut the original shop left the owner “gutted” at the beginning of the year. However, the business has made a strong comeback, reopening with a permanent stall in the indoor market last week. This move marks a return to familiar territory, as Brooklyn Pizza Slice originally began its journey at Durham Market.
For the past six months, dedicated customers eagerly awaited the reopening of Brooklyn Pizza Slice and celebrated its return with enthusiasm.
One loyal customer expressed their excitement, saying, “Awesome, so pleased to see you back. Keep us posted!” Another added, “Told you to go back to your roots – glad you’ve done it!”
