KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — After 45 years of serving the community, Fricano’s of Alamo, a cherished pizzeria in Kalamazoo County, is closing its doors. Located at 7454 N. Sixth St. in Alamo Township, this beloved establishment will serve its last pizza on Saturday, June 29, as announced on social media.
For those wanting one last taste, the restaurant will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. each day, from Wednesday, June 26, through Saturday.
Owner Phil Fricano, who inaugurated the Alamo location in 1979, began his journey with the family’s pizza chain a few years earlier at the original Grand Haven location. This location was opened by his father, Cosimo (Gus) Fricano, in 1949.
“I want to thank everyone for supporting Fricano’s and all of our employees for the past 45 years,” Phil Fricano said in a heartfelt video message on May 6. “I have met many great people that I now call friends. It’s now time for golf, grandkids, and any other adventure that comes along.”
Earlier this year, Phil Fricano also closed his other location in Caledonia in January.
Other Fricano’s locations, managed by various family members, will continue to operate in Manistee, Muskegon, Holland, Comstock Park, and Grand Haven. The family-owned franchise, renowned for its thin-crust pizza, also offers a diverse menu that includes chicken parmigiana, baby-back ribs, and pork chops.
Situated about 10 miles northwest of Kalamazoo, the rural Alamo Township restaurant has long been admired not only for its delicious food but also for its scenic patio views, which provided a charming outdoor dining experience.
In late 2021, Phil Fricano temporarily closed the Alamo Township location due to an ongoing labor shortage that hindered his ability to maintain operations. After reopening post-holidays, the decision to permanently close was announced this May.
The closure of Fricano’s of Alamo marks the end of an era for many loyal customers who have enjoyed its offerings for decades.
