Domino’s Pizza Enterprises (DPE) is preparing for the departure of its Group Chief Operating Officer, Michael Gillespie, whose responsibilities encompass group IT, digital, data, e-commerce, and other critical functions. Gillespie, who has been with the company for 16 and a half years, announced his impending exit in a LinkedIn post, indicating that he will leave the company in mid-September.
A spokesperson for DPE confirmed to iTnews that Gillespie has not yet decided on his next career move. “Michael will continue to serve at Domino’s until mid-September, after which he plans to take time to review different opportunities before embarking on his next challenge,” the spokesperson said. “During this period, he looks forward to spending quality time with his family and pursuing his passion for motor racing.”
Gillespie has served as Group COO since August of the previous year. In his LinkedIn post, he explained his decision to leave, stating, “I could no longer find the spark at DPE that allowed me to give the 110 percent I needed in my role. I felt it was the right time for me to hand over control of the group e-commerce, marketing, digital, data, and shared services wheels to others in the business.”
The spokesperson highlighted Gillespie’s significant contributions to Domino’s, noting his pivotal role in transforming the company into one of Australia’s most sophisticated online and digital retailers. His tenure included overseeing the development and implementation of an advanced online ordering platform, which now processes over $3 billion in sales annually, among other world-class digital initiatives.
Gillespie’s career at Domino’s began with his role as Group Chief Digital Officer in 2014, which was later expanded to Group Chief Digital and Technology Officer in 2017 before he became COO. Prior to joining Domino’s, Gillespie held positions at Virgin Blue (now Virgin Australia), Australian Insurance Holdings (Budget Direct), and QBD The Bookshop.
As Domino’s looks ahead, the company will seek to build on Gillespie’s legacy of digital innovation and leadership while navigating the transition to new leadership in its technology and digital operations.
