For the fourth consecutive year, San Francisco’s renowned Tony’s Pizza Napoletana has secured a top position in the annual pizza rankings by 50 Top Pizza, an esteemed Italian media company. Tony Gemignani’s acclaimed pizzeria has been ranked No. 2 in the U.S., making it the only Bay Area establishment to be featured in the national category this year.

Tony’s Pizza Napoletana is not new to these accolades. Since 2021, the pizzeria has consistently been listed among the best in the U.S. by 50 Top Pizza and has also been recognized internationally in 2022 and 2023. This year, the pizzeria also received special recognition in the USA Special Awards 2024 category for Pizza of the Year. The guide praised Tony’s Neapolitan-style pizzas as “excellent” and its Detroit-style pizzas as “truly remarkable.” Tony’s popular Neapolitan Margherita pizza is particularly noteworthy, with Gemignani previously mentioning that it sells out daily.

Tony Gemignani expressed his gratitude in an email statement to SFGATE, saying, “I am honored for Tony’s and my Las Vegas outpost, Pizza Rock, to once again be ranked among the top 50 pizzerias in the USA. As we celebrate Tony’s 15th anniversary this week, I am excited to share this moment with my neighborhood, North Beach, and the entire Bay Area community that has supported us every step of the way.”

In addition to Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, Gemignani’s Las Vegas restaurant, Pizza Rock, also made the U.S. list, coming in at No. 28.

The annual awards also highlighted several other Bay Area pizzerias. Del Popolo, Flour + Water, Pizzeria Da Laura, and Yellow Motto Pizzeria were included in the Excellent Pizzeria list. Mama’s Boy Pizza in Oakland earned a spot in the 50 Top Pizza Slice USA category, ranking No. 8.

California as a whole performed well in the rankings, with several pizzerias earning recognition. Los Angeles’ Pizzeria Sei was ranked No. 8, Flour House in San Luis Obispo was No. 20, Nardò in Huntington Beach was No. 26, Tribute Pizza in San Diego was No. 36, and Truly Pizza in Dana Point was No. 42.

Tony’s Pizza Napoletana continues to be a beacon of excellence in the pizza world, and its consistent recognition speaks volumes about its quality and the dedication of its founder, Tony Gemignani.
