Easterseals recently celebrated National Pizza Party Day with a successful fundraiser, netting $3,084 to support their mission of aiding individuals with physical and developmental special needs. Held on May 17, the event marked a significant increase from the previous year’s $654 donation.
Betsy Bethel-McFarland, Easterseals’ Marketing Director, spearheaded the initiative earlier this year by partnering with local pizzerias. These establishments generously contributed 53 pizzas and eight trays to organizations that donated above a specified amount. Participating pizzerias included Greco’s, DiCarlo’s, Domino’s, DeFelice Bros., Pizza Express, Vocelli, Little Caesars, and Original PJ’s Pizza, the latter also making a cash donation.
Original PJ’s Pizza holds a special connection to Easterseals, as co-owner Erika Donaghy has personally benefited from their services due to her battle with Charcot-Marie-Tooth syndrome. Dr. Ellen Kitts, Easterseals’ medical director, played a pivotal role in Donaghy’s treatment journey, emphasizing a compassionate approach that deeply resonated with her.
The fundraiser drew support from various donor organizations, including Dr. Daniel Joseph’s orthodontist office, Facebook fundraisers, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal, Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration, Richardson’s Copy Concepts, RSQP Print and Design, WTRF-TV, and Ohio County Schools administrative offices. Debbie Joseph, a longstanding Easterseals board member and co-chair of the Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta, highlighted the community’s ongoing commitment to the organization’s initiatives.
Looking ahead, Bethel-McFarland aims to expand the fundraiser next year, potentially involving local schools in hosting pizza parties to further boost donations. The success of this year’s event underscores the community’s dedication to supporting Easterseals’ vital work in the region.
