After a recent shooting incident near the 2800 block of East 10th Street, Sam Miner, owner of Sam’s Square Pie, has spoken out about the impact on his business and community.
“East 10th Street doesn’t have the best reputation in the city,” Miner acknowledged, reflecting on the area’s challenges.
According to an IMPD police report, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the vicinity. Upon arrival, they discovered damage to several local businesses and recovered shell casings.
Sam’s Square Pie was among the businesses affected, with a stray bullet piercing one of their windows. Security camera footage obtained from a nearby establishment captured the alarming incident.
“The events of that night were frightening, and it’s important for people to see what happened,” Miner emphasized, expressing concern over the escalating violence.
The footage depicts a group outside a gas station, engaged in an altercation with the driver of a minivan. The situation quickly escalated as shots were fired at the vehicle and nearby businesses.
Miner, while grateful for the support of his customers following the incident, voiced a deeper concern about societal norms: “It’s a stark reminder of the harsh realities we face. Why do we live in a society where firearms are seen as a solution to disputes?”
Despite the adversity, Miner remains hopeful that the community will unite to address the issue of violence in the Indianapolis area.
“It’s about strength in numbers,” Miner affirmed. “If we can come together quickly and support each other, that collective power is undeniable.”
As Sam’s Square Pie continues to serve its patrons, Miner’s call for community solidarity underscores a plea for peace and safety in the neighborhood.
