Portland, OR (The Oregonian) – American Dream Pizza, a beloved fixture in Portland’s North Tabor neighborhood since 1985, has unexpectedly closed its doors. This closure marks the end of an era for one of Portland’s oldest dedicated pizza establishments.
The pizzeria, known for its distinctive pizza box art contests and as one of the first in the city to offer hand-rolled crusts and serve Widmer beer, has been a staple in the community for nearly four decades. Its sudden closure has left many patrons surprised and nostalgic.
Co-founder Sebastian Malinow explained to The Oregonian that the decision came after a plan to sell the restaurant to two former employees fell through earlier this month. Malinow, who is planning to retire, expressed his hope to find new buyers who will maintain the pizzeria’s legacy and continue serving the community.
“American Dream Pizza is temporarily closed for cleaning and minor remodeling,” reads a note posted on the restaurant’s door. “We are looking for new ownership.” This message underscores the founders’ intention to preserve the pizzeria’s unique character and historical significance.
The pizzeria’s impact on Portland’s culinary scene is notable. It not only offered innovative pizza options but also fostered a creative and welcoming atmosphere that made it a cherished local hangout.
As Malinow seeks new owners, the community remains hopeful that American Dream Pizza will reopen and continue its tradition of serving quality pizza and fostering local artistry. For now, the future of this iconic Portland eatery hangs in the balance, awaiting the right hands to take up its helm.
