Una Pizza Napoletana, a pizzeria located in the East Village, has been named the best pizza in the United States for the third consecutive year by the prestigious online guide 50 Top Pizza. This guide, widely regarded as the gold standard for evaluating pizza, is particularly respected because it is based in Italy, specifically Naples—the birthplace of pizza.
“The recognition from an organization based in Naples means a lot because that’s where pizza was created,” said the pizzeria’s owner, Anthony Mangieri. “Pizza now belongs to the world, and there are countless wonderful versions of it. We have New York-style dough, Neapolitan style, and what we make is a hybrid that started as Neapolitan and evolved into its own unique style. It’s more puffy, wild, and highly hydrated.”
In addition to judging the quality of the pies, the 50 Top Pizza Guide also considers the overall customer experience. One customer told FOX 5 that the dough is “absolutely amazing,” with “just the right balance between the cheese and the sauce.” Another described the pizza as “so fresh and delicious” with perfect “texture and flavor.”
Mangieri finds the most rewarding aspect of his work to be the impact on his customers. “It’s really inspiring when people come in and are genuinely touched by the experience,” he said.
