A recent study has revealed Ireland’s most popular pizza toppings, with pepperoni securing the top spot. The research, conducted by Dutch lifestyle magazine Dailybase, analyzed the number of monthly searches in Ireland for 50 different pizza toppings. The data was gathered using search terms such as “X pizza,” “X pizza topping,” and “where to buy X pizza.”
1. Pepperoni
Pepperoni emerged as Ireland’s favorite, with an average of 681.67 monthly searches. This popular cured meat, made from pork or a blend of pork and beef, is seasoned with paprika and chili, along with black pepper, garlic, and mixed herbs. Its spicy, smoky flavor makes it a beloved choice for many pizza lovers.
2. Anchovy
Anchovies came in second place, averaging 460.83 monthly searches. These small, oily fish are packed with Omega-3 fatty acids, offering numerous health benefits. Their strong, salty, and umami-rich taste makes them a bold yet appealing topping for those who enjoy a more adventurous pizza experience.
3. Mozzarella
Mozzarella ranked third with 277.50 average monthly searches. This semi-soft cheese, made from cow or buffalo milk, is known for its mild flavor and delightful stretchiness when melted. It is a key ingredient in the classic Margherita pizza, loved for its simplicity and richness.
4. Nduja
Nduja, a spicy, spreadable sausage from Italy, has gained popularity in Ireland, with 215.83 average monthly searches. Often paired with hot honey, this topping adds a perfect balance of heat and sweetness to any pizza, making it a fast-growing favorite.
5. Pesto
Pesto rounds out the top five with 194.17 average monthly searches. Made from crushed basil leaves, pine nuts, parmesan or pecorino cheese, garlic, and oil, pesto can be used as a pizza base or added on top of other ingredients, providing a fresh and flavorful twist.
