After a brief stint on Mt. Hope Avenue, the iconic Rochester pizzeria, Bay & Goodman, is making a comeback in the suburbs. The well-loved eatery will open its doors at 6548 Anthony Drive in Victor on Tuesday, August 20—at least, that’s the plan.
“We’re aiming for that date,” said Larry Piccarreto. “It should be possible.”
Bay & Goodman Pizza has a rich history, first established by Josephine and Alfonse Salvaggio in 1955 at the intersection it’s named after. Piccarreto took over the family business in 1980, eventually relocating it to North Winton Village in 2007. However, in the spring of 2022, he decided to close shop, choosing to retire.
Despite his decision, Piccarreto had second thoughts. Encouraged by his sons, Matthew and Nicholas, he decided to reopen the pizzeria in the fall of 2023 at Mt. Hope Plaza, this time with Matthew taking charge. However, the Mt. Hope location was short-lived, closing in April after their lease expired. The space was subsequently taken over by Mr. Shoes Pizza.
Now, the family is set to relaunch Bay & Goodman in Victor, with Matthew, 22, once again at the helm. Piccarreto will continue to offer his guidance while working part-time.
The new location is a little over a mile east of Victor village, in a space previously occupied by Marvin Mozzeroni’s Pizza and Pasta.
“It’s a growing area,” Piccarreto said. “I think it’s going to work out fine for us.”
The town of Victor has indeed seen growth, with its population increasing by more than 11% from 2010 to 2020, reaching 15,860 residents. The median household income in 2020 was $110,395.
Bay & Goodman’s Victor location will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. The restaurant will be closed on Mondays.
The menu will largely stay the same, with a few new additions. Customers can now order a bacon smashburger and a new line of chicken sandwiches. The pizzeria will continue to offer its popular salads, but paninis have been replaced by wraps.
In addition to the Victor location, Bay & Goodman has plans to return to the city of Rochester.
“We’re working on a deal that could bring us back to the city by Christmas,” Piccarreto said, hinting that the new location will be in North Winton Village, his old neighborhood.
