Plans have been submitted to convert a former Pizza Hut in Cleveleys into an indoor padel tennis court and café, pending approval from Wyre planners. The proposal includes repurposing the vacant restaurant into a café, as well as leveling the site, adding lighting, and implementing other necessary infrastructure.
Padel tennis, a sport combining elements of tennis and squash, has been rapidly gaining popularity worldwide. The sport is played on a smaller court, surrounded by glass and metallic mesh walls, using a stringless racquet and a low-compression tennis ball. Recently, another application for new padel courts was submitted for Pool Foot Farm in Thornton.
The new development will feature outdoor seating areas both in front of the café and to the north of the padel court. According to the developers, repurposing the existing structure for the café will not negatively impact the surrounding area. They believe the addition of three covered padel courts and a refurbished café will enhance inclusivity, encourage active lifestyles, and boost local economic activity.
