Australia’s top city for pizza has been announced, and the results are in!
While Australia may not rival Italy in the pizza world, some local spots are making their mark. Gozney, a company known for outdoor pizza ovens, conducted a detailed study to determine which city excels in pizza.
The research considered several factors: the average number of pizza-related Google searches each year, the number of pizza restaurants with four-star ratings or higher, and the overall volume of pizzerias. The findings reveal that Sydney leads the nation in pizza quality and quantity.
Sydney tops the list, boasting the highest number of pizza places per capita. Over 40% of these restaurants have received four-star ratings or more on TripAdvisor.
“Pizza clearly excites Sydney’s taste buds,” said Christian Pohio, General Manager of Gozney Australia. “The city offers a diverse range of styles, from Neapolitan to deep dish. Sydney has emerged as a hub for pizza innovation, with street pizza and pop-up restaurants capturing the nation’s attention.”
Melbourne secured the second spot, representing one-third of Australia’s pizza-related searches. Brisbane follows in third place, with Gold Coast coming in fourth. Adelaide rounds out the top five.
“Adelaide is famous for its fine wine, but the city’s growing interest in pizza shows that it is also a great spot for a slice,” Pohio noted.
Perth and Canberra took the sixth and seventh spots, respectively. The final three cities on the list were Geelong in eighth place, followed by Wollongong and Newcastle in ninth and tenth places.
