LAS VEGAS — Frankensons Pizzeria, a restaurant in Las Vegas that gained fame from a viral TikTok review, is facing financial difficulties once again. Owner Frank Steele has launched a GoFundMe campaign to keep the pizzeria open.
The trouble began when TikTok food critic Keith Lee’s glowing review of Frankensons in January 2023 brought the restaurant overnight success. Before the review, the pizzeria was on the brink of closure. Lee’s review praised the pizza and service, leading to a surge in business. The video amassed over 30.6 million views and 6.2 million likes, bringing customers from across the country to the seven-mile-out-of-the-way location.
Steele, who had been operating with a full house for months, told The Blast that the popularity lasted for about seven months. To sustain the buzz, he actively used TikTok and Instagram, sharing updates and specials with his followers. Despite the initial success, business began to decline over the past six to eight months.
Adding to the challenge, Steele faced serious health issues, leading to a hospital stay and mounting medical bills. He described his financial situation as dire, prompting him to start a GoFundMe campaign on July 9, seeking $100,000. As of August 19, the campaign had raised only $8,294.
The restaurant’s website appears to be down, making it unclear whether online orders are accepted. Despite the struggles, Steele continues to promote value deals and specials on social media, including BOGO offers and family meal deals.
Steele remains hopeful that the personal touch of his customer interactions will help. He emphasizes the importance of supporting small businesses during tough economic times, appealing to his community and beyond for help.
