Plans have been submitted for a new pizzeria at 10 Jewry Street, Winchester. The application, filed by Matthew Willisher, director of Five Boroughs Pizza Limited, includes proposals for an extraction system and a licensing request for opening hours and alcohol service.
The new restaurant will face competition from existing establishments like Pizza Express, Three Joes, and The Stable. The space was previously used as a pop-up escape room and was once occupied by Carter Jonas estate agents.
According to the planning statement, the proposed ventilation system will address both odour and noise control. The restaurant aims to be a family-run, neighbourhood eatery with limited evening takeaway options. It will primarily operate as a dining establishment rather than a takeaway.
The restaurant plans to employ four full-time and 20 part-time staff members. Proposed opening hours are Sunday to Thursday from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m., and Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 1 a.m.
The application notes that these hours align with other local eateries on Jewry Street, such as Turkuaz, Raymond Blanc, Wagamama, Samurai, Bangkok, Prezzo, and The Old Gaolhouse, which have closing times between 10 p.m. and midnight.
