Papa Johns in Royal Wootton Bassett unexpectedly closed its doors on Friday evening, leaving many customers unaware and still able to place orders online over the weekend.
Despite the closure, orders continued to be accepted through popular food delivery platforms, leading to frustration as customers were left waiting for meals that would never arrive. On Saturday, August 17, a concerned resident took to social media to warn others: “Do not order food from Papa Johns in Royal Wootton Bassett – it closed down yesterday. But orders are still being taken via Just Eat.”
Another local confirmed the situation, saying, “We found that out tonight as well.”
When visited, the Papa Johns location on Gainsborough Avenue showed no visible signs of a permanent closure. There were no notices on the doors or windows, though a red Papa Johns t-shirt was seen on the floor inside, visible through the letterbox.
The Papa Johns website still lists the Royal Wootton Bassett location, though it indicates that the store is “not currently accepting online orders.” A spokesperson for Papa Johns confirmed the closure but did not rule out the possibility of reopening in the future.
“We can confirm that the Papa Johns store in Royal Wootton Bassett has permanently closed,” the spokesperson said. They assured that refunds would be issued to customers who had placed orders that were not fulfilled.
“While the store has been closed, some customers were still able to place orders through food delivery platforms – these customers will all be issued with a refund,” the spokesperson added.
Papa Johns continues to operate two other stores in the Swindon area, one on Victoria Road and the other on Moredon Road.
Regarding the Royal Wootton Bassett location, the spokesperson hinted at a potential return, stating, “We’re grateful to all of our loyal customers in Royal Wootton Bassett and are currently exploring possibilities around new ownership.”
