New York Governor Kathy Hochul took a lighthearted jab at Chicago-style deep-dish pizza during an interview at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) on Wednesday. In the interview with NY1’s Washington Correspondent Kevin Frey, Hochul declined to try a slice of the Windy City’s iconic pizza, citing her status as a “pizza connoisseur.”
When offered the deep-dish slice, Hochul hesitated, eventually describing it as “kinda funny looking” with a visible look of displeasure. She went on to explain that her reluctance wasn’t just about appearance but also about the time it takes to prepare. “An hour is much too long to ask for a New Yorker to wait,” she said, referencing the lengthy cooking time often associated with the thick, saucy pizza.
The playful exchange highlights the long-standing rivalry between New York and Chicago over which city boasts the best pizza.
