As downtown Spokane buzzes with activity, local businesses like David’s Pizza are bracing for a surge in customers. The popular pizzeria is preparing its team for what promises to be a bustling weekend.
“We’re in constant communication with our staff and the community,” said Rickie Barton, a longtime employee at David’s Pizza, who has been with the restaurant on and off for a decade. “Even after moving away, I always find myself coming back here.”
The biggest draw is the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival at ONE Spokane Stadium, expected to attract around 7,500 attendees. Organizers estimate that about 35% of those tickets were purchased by visitors from outside Spokane, bringing approximately 2,000 people to the city.
In addition to the comedy festival, other downtown events like the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck, which saw long lines outside River Park Square, and the 4th annual Tacos y Tequila Festival on Spokane Falls Boulevard and Lincoln Street, are adding to the excitement.
Barton emphasizes that communication and adaptability are crucial for managing the weekend rush.
“Having a team that’s flexible and experienced is key,” Barton noted. “We’ve noticed a slight dip in numbers, but with today’s beautiful weather, we’re optimistic about picking things back up.”
Barton anticipates that the increased foot traffic could potentially double their usual Saturday profits and hopes that visitors will join regular customers in enjoying their pizza.
“It’s all a learning experience, and we’re eager to see how the weekend unfolds,” Barton added.
