Plans have been submitted to establish a new Domino’s pizza takeaway in Gatley, which, if approved, would take over the premises at 74-76 Church Road, previously occupied by a hardware shop.
The proposed takeaway would operate from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., with visitors expected to use the existing on-street parking spaces outside the building. The applicant notes that most customers arriving by car would likely spend no more than 10 minutes collecting their orders.
The application also suggests that staff will primarily walk or use public transportation to get to work, reducing the need for additional parking spaces. A planning document states that the current parking availability in the area is sufficient to accommodate customers, staff, and delivery vehicles without worsening local traffic or safety concerns.
The new Domino’s would aim to create several full-time and part-time jobs, with recruitment focused on local residents. The applicant argues that the introduction of a takeaway at this location is appropriate, given the presence of other takeaways in the Gatley Local Centre. The nearest takeaway is approximately 60 meters away at 60 Church Road.
The applicant emphasizes that the change of use would not negatively impact residential amenities, harm the vitality of the area, or create safety issues on nearby roads. They also believe that reopening the vacant shopfront will enhance the local center’s appearance, attract foot traffic, and provide job opportunities for the community.
The building’s exterior would remain largely unchanged, with only minor modifications to align with Domino’s typical design. Inside, the new layout would include 12 square meters of public space within the 132-square-meter building.
The local council is expected to make a decision on the application by September 19.
