La Sorted Pizzeria, a popular Silverlake eatery that began as a pandemic venture, is set to open a new location in Chinatown. The new restaurant will occupy the space previously held by Chinese Friends Restaurant in Mandarin Plaza, according to a recent approval from the Los Angeles City Planning Department.
The Chinatown location will span 969 square feet and offer 30 indoor seats. It will also feature occasional live entertainment. The restaurant will serve alcohol, but it will only be available with food purchases. There is no minimum age for entry. The exact opening date has not been announced yet.
Tommy Brockert, the owner of La Sorted Pizzeria, started the business after the pandemic disrupted his event photography work. Initially operating as a pop-up with a converted 1966 Ford Econoline van, known as the “Pie Machine,” La Sorted gained popularity and eventually found a permanent home in Silverlake.
The new Chinatown location will offer a range of starters, including various fries, wings, and chips. The menu will also feature salads, focaccia sandwiches, and hoagies, all prepared with fresh ingredients. The pizzeria is known for its diverse selection of pizza toppings, available by the whole pie or by the slice.
