Micah-Angelo’s Pizza Fantastica: A Rising Star in Marietta

Micah-Angelo’s Pizza Fantastica, a new addition to the Lewis Park neighborhood in Marietta, is quickly gaining popularity. The restaurant, which opened about a month ago, is becoming a favorite among locals and visitors alike. We decided to try it out on the occasion of my wife’s birthday, having heard great things about the place.

Located at the corner of Sessions and Campbell Hill Street, the building was once the Sessions Stand bakery. Micah and Katie Pfister, who previously operated several restaurants in Marietta Square, now run this new venture. Katie is a trained baker from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, while Micah studied culinary arts at Sullivan University in Kentucky.

The Pfisters bring a blend of creativity and skill to their food. We had enjoyed their croissants from Sessions Stand since moving nearby in 2018. Now, with the addition of their pizza restaurant, many locals are curious if we visit daily. While the food is indeed tempting, we follow a philosophy of quality indulgence, a mindset my wife Cecilie has instilled in me. She believes that if you’re going to splurge, it should be on the best available.

The restaurant’s exterior features a vibrant, marinara-colored roll-up door with “Ciao Y’all” painted on it, reflecting their playful Southern charm. The menu is concise, offering seven types of pizzas. We chose the Spicy pizza, which features thinly sliced soppressata, fresh mozzarella, red sauce, and Calabrese peppers.

On a recent Saturday evening around 8:30 pm, we visited and observed the process. Micah used a high-tech thermometer to check the temperature of their custom-built Italian oven, which was operating at about 775 degrees Fahrenheit. The pizza was cooked to perfection in under two minutes, with a crispy leopard-patterned crust.

Additional toppings like hot peppers, parmesan cheese, and a seasoning mix of dried garlic, fennel, and oregano enhance the flavor of the pizzas. Many locals have compared Micah-Angelo’s to Antico Pizza, with some even preferring it. The dough is neither too thin nor too thick, providing a satisfying texture with crispy edges.

If you haven’t visited yet, consider parking at Lewis Park and taking a leisurely walk to the restaurant. If there’s a wait, you can grab a cold beer from a nearby spot. Enjoy your pizza either at the small outdoor seating area or back at the park under the shade. Micah-Angelo’s Pizza Fantastica lives up to its name and is definitely worth a visit.
