Toronto’s Sorauren Park is now home to a wood-fired pizza oven, which has become a popular feature this summer. Located in the park, the oven is part of an initiative by Friends of Sorauren Park, who built it in 2017 with support from donors, skilled tradespeople, and Toronto Parks, Forestry, and Recreation.
The oven is available for public use. Those interested can book it through Toronto Parks, Forestry, and Recreation’s reservation system. Friends of Sorauren Park also offer volunteer assistance to help with the booking and operation of the oven.
The 2024 city permit fee is $32.52 per use, with an additional insurance fee of $33.48. To obtain the permit and a training guide, contact Kathy at [email protected].
This summer, the oven has been featured at various park events, including the Farmer’s Market and monthly outdoor movies. Pizzas are made fresh on-site, offering a unique and tasty experience for visitors.
From May to September, the oven is kept hot with a supply of coals, and additional logs can be added for baking. Outside of this period, the oven requires several hours to reach the proper temperature.
For a taste of the oven-baked pizzas, visit the Sorauren Farmers Market on Mondays from 3 PM to 7 PM until the end of September. If you prefer not to book the oven, this is a great opportunity to enjoy freshly baked pizza.
With summer winding down, make sure to take advantage of this unique park feature before the season ends.
