Margate’s reputation as a culinary hotspot in Kent is reinforced by GB Pizza, a popular pizzeria on the seafront. The town, often hailed as the county’s foodie capital, boasts a high concentration of Michelin-rated venues, making it a notable destination for dining.
Located along Margate’s bustling seafront, GB Pizza has been a staple since 2012. Despite a setback in 2022 when an arson attack destroyed the restaurant, it has reopened, continuing to serve its signature thin and crispy pizzas.
As we arrived at the pizzeria, we were greeted by a lively atmosphere and a view of the sunset over the beach. The staff welcomed us warmly, and we were seated by the window, enjoying a panoramic view of the horizon.
GB Pizza stands out for its focus on Kentish produce. The menu features local cheeses and cured meats, and its offerings change seasonally. We began our meal with a selection of drinks, including a can of Hush Heath Pink Fizz from Staplehurst winery. Although sparkling wine in a can might seem unconventional, it proved to be a refreshing choice.
For the main course, we sampled three pizzas: the Meat Feast, the Spanish Special, and Pear and Ricotta. Each pizza lived up to its promise of being thin and crispy. The Meat Feast, priced at £14.50, featured a flavorful mix of chorizo, ham, nduja, and salami, complemented by sweet peppers and aioli. The Spanish Special, at £13.50, offered a combination of red peppers, padron peppers, artichoke, paprika, and manchego. The Pear and Ricotta, priced at £11.50, combined ricotta with pear and blue cheese for an unexpectedly delightful taste.
The pizzas are distinct from traditional Italian styles, focusing on light, flavorful dough rather than the heavy mozzarella common in other pizzerias. Dipping sauces, including garlic butter and sriracha honey, add extra flavor to the crusts.
Overall, GB Pizza excels in delivering quality ingredients and a fun dining experience. With its creative menu and friendly service, it’s a standout in Margate’s vibrant food scene.
