01 Pizza, a restaurant and takeaway on Ingate Street in Beccles, is facing objections over traffic safety following its application for retrospective planning permission.
The restaurant has been operating since February but only sought official approval from East Suffolk Council in July. The application is for a change of use from a Class E restaurant to a Sui Generis takeaway and restaurant.
Beccles Town Council’s planning and highways committee has objected to the application, citing concerns about frequent traffic and parking issues, which they believe pose a “traffic safety hazard.” Suffolk County Council’s highway authority also opposes the proposal, particularly the three parking bays in front of the building. Transport planning engineer Mohammedur Rashid-Miah expressed worries that vehicles could “obstruct the public footway,” making the site unsafe for vehicle users and pedestrians.
A local resident has also raised concerns about the traffic, noting that the high volume of delivery drivers and customers blocks the path, forcing pedestrians onto the road. The neighbor also reported noise from customers and staff, which becomes noticeable in nearby gardens when the doors are open in summer.
Mr. Erden, the applicant, had previously sought permission for a “change of use to restaurant (Class E) and installation of an external extractor flue to the rear elevation” in late 2022. This request was refused in early 2023. However, an application for the “installation of an external extractor flue in connection with the use as a restaurant (Class E)” was approved in June 2023.
