La Flor, a new pizzeria, has opened its doors at 766 Classon Avenue, at the border of Prospect Heights and Crown Heights. Giancarlo Villa, the owner, previously worked at Roberta’s and was part of the original team at Upside Pizza. His new spot offers a variety of slices, including pepperoni, jalapeño, and ranch, as well as bruschetta and stromboli. The pizzeria is conveniently located near the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park.
L’Appartement 4F Alums Launch Bakery
Isa Steyer and Billy Wright, former colleagues at L’Appartement 4F, are starting their own bakery called Welcome Home. They have signed a lease for a location at 1047 Bedford Avenue and Greene Avenue in Bed-Stuy. The bakery is set to open this fall, with a Kickstarter campaign underway. Expect inventive pastries such as croissant pizza rolls, PB&J pop tarts, and sourdough pretzels.
New Restaurant Dilly Dally Replaces Petite Patate
Greg Baxtrom’s Petite Patate has closed, with plans to move his French bistro, Maison Yaki, to Illinois. The space at 626 Vanderbilt Avenue, near Prospect Place, will soon be occupied by Dave Patry, who began his career at his family’s restaurant in Maine. Patry’s new venture, Dilly Dally, will open in September, offering comfort food like chicken pot pies and burgers in a 60-seat restaurant.
Hong Kong-Style Cafe Opens in Bensonhurst
Chun Hong Kong Cafe has recently opened at 6419 18th Avenue, at the border of Bensonhurst and Mapleton. The new cafe joins a growing number of Hong Kong-style cafes in New York, such as Mabu Café, Kong Sihk Tong, M. Star, and a seasonal pop-up by Wilson Tang.
