A new sign along New Canaan Avenue hints at an exciting development: Riko’s Pizza is preparing to open an upgraded restaurant in Norwalk.
The popular pizza chain, known for its thin-crust tavern-style pies, will relocate from its current takeout-only spot at 247 Connecticut Avenue to a larger 4,600 square-foot location at 85 New Canaan Avenue. The new site previously housed John’s Best Pizza.
Riko’s announced the move in July, revealing plans to close the Connecticut Avenue location once the new restaurant opens, expected in late 2024 or early 2025.
On Monday, a Riko’s spokesperson informed Patch that the restaurant is still awaiting necessary permits, which are anticipated in the coming weeks. Once the building permit is received, the opening is projected to occur about 4-5 months later. The Connecticut Avenue location will shut a few days before the new restaurant opens.
The spokesperson shared with Patch, “Thirteen years ago, we started as a takeout and delivery pizzeria. Over time, we have evolved into a family restaurant concept with a full bar, while still offering takeout and delivery.”
The Connecticut Avenue location is the last of Riko’s outlets to operate solely as a takeout and delivery spot. The spokesperson added, “We had been looking for a suitable location in Norwalk for a while, and this new site was a perfect match.”
Shannon O’Toole Giandurco, President of the Greater Norwalk Chamber, praised the expansion. She noted, “Connecticut is known for its strong pizza culture, with iconic pizzerias, especially in New Haven. Adding a new pizza spot in Norwalk enhances our growing food scene and attracts pizza enthusiasts.”
Founded in 2011, Riko’s Pizza has transitioned from a takeout-only model to full-service restaurants with bars. The chain now operates 10 locations across Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Florida, with plans for future expansions in North Carolina and Vermont. Riko’s also has Connecticut locations in Darien, Fairfield, and Stamford.
