Jet’s Pizza, known for its Detroit-style pizzas, is set to open a new location in Herndon, marking the chain’s continued growth in Northern Virginia.
Franchisee Dan Kosztowny has signed a lease for the new store at 905 Herndon Parkway, taking over a space previously occupied by Great Clips. This will be Kosztowny’s third Jet’s Pizza in the region, with other locations already established in Alexandria and Annandale.
Detroit-style pizza, a specialty of Jet’s, is known for its rectangular shape, deep-dish crust, and layers of sauce on top. The crust is thick and chewy, with cheese baked to the edges. In addition to its signature Detroit-style pies, Jet’s also offers New York-style, hand-tossed round pizzas, wings, calzones, and salads.
Kosztowny has submitted initial food and fire permit applications with Fairfax County for the Herndon site, located between Potbelly and Grill Kabob. Once the necessary permits are approved, he plans to apply for building permits with the town of Herndon. If the process goes smoothly, Kosztowny estimates the new location could be up and running within 90 days, aiming to open just before the Super Bowl.
Kosztowny holds a franchise deal with Jet’s Pizza, based in Sterling Heights, Michigan, for a total of 11 locations in Northern Virginia. However, the franchisee sees the potential for even more locations, depending on the availability of suitable real estate.
“It’s all about finding the right space,” Kosztowny explained. He is constantly searching for storefronts that meet his criteria: 1,200 to 1,500 square feet, ample parking, and a landlord open to having a pizza shop. However, finding spaces that check all the boxes has been a challenge.
Jet’s Pizza operates over 400 locations across 20 states, with most of its expansion driven through franchising.
