V Pizza is set to open a new 8,000-square-foot restaurant with outdoor seating in Durbin Crossing, St. Johns County. The new location will be situated at 150 Longleaf Pine Parkway, west of St. Johns Parkway, within a developing center anchored by the Borland Groover Durbin Crossing Endoscopy Center. Borland Groover owns the property through Durbin Crossing Properties LLC.
On September 5, the St. Johns County Planned Use and Zoning Board unanimously approved the project. The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners will review the rezoning request in an upcoming meeting. The Commission meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month. As of now, V Pizza’s application has not yet been added to the agenda.
The proposed V Pizza building will be a single-story structure located west of the two-story medical office. Matthews | DCCM of St. Augustine is handling the civil engineering for the project.
If approved, this will be V Pizza’s 13th location across three states and the third in St. Johns County. The restaurant chain currently operates seven locations in Northeast Florida, with additional restaurants in Gainesville, Orlando, and St. Simons, Georgia, and two in North Carolina. The Carolina locations are franchises.
V Pizza first launched in San Marco at 1406 Hendricks Ave. in the spring of 2014. The restaurant prides itself on using imported Italian brick ovens to cook its pizzas. According to V Pizza’s website, “We have no microwaves, range tops, or heat warmers because we cook everything in our imported Italian brick ovens. They are truly the most important ingredient in our pizza. But of course, the sauce from San Marzano tomatoes, bufala mozzarella, and Prosciutto di Parma are delicious too.”
V Pizza’s website also notes that although the “V” in V Pizza might be rumored to stand for “Very, Very good Pizza,” it actually stands for “Veloce,” which means “fast” in Italian. The restaurant’s 900° ovens cook pizzas in as little as 90 seconds, ensuring that everything is delivered hot and fresh directly to the table.
