A Lubbock restaurant will become the second pizzeria in the city to close this month. Westside Pizza, located at 6616 Milwaukee Ave., announced on social media that it will shut its doors permanently on September 20.
James “Red” Williams of Westside Pizza cited inflation and market saturation as the main reasons for the closure. “In my 20 years of business, I’ve never seen price fluctuations this severe or unpredictable,” Williams said. “Since we opened in 2022, 6 to 8 competitors have opened within a 3-mile radius. That’s a lot of pizza taken out of the market.”
The restaurant expressed gratitude to its patrons and encouraged them to visit before the closure. “Thank you Lubbock and all of our loyal customers,” the company said. “It’s been a pleasure serving you!”
Everything in the restaurant, including 10 franchise licenses for the West Texas area, will be up for sale.
The announcement follows the recent closure of Urban Bricks, another pizzeria at 7610 Milwaukee Ave., which shut down on September 4.
These closures add to a growing list of Lubbock pizzerias that have recently closed. Earlier this year, La Bella Pizza at 2112 50th St. closed in March. Last year saw the shutdowns of 1000 Degrees Pizza in February and March, Brooklyn Pizza at 5217 98th St. in July, Double Dave’s at 6023 82nd St. in October, and Pepe’s Pizza at 3407 98th St. on September 3.
