Pizza Express has opened a new branch today (Friday, September 13) at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham, offering more than just food. The pizzeria, located in the city centre, features a record store and a space for live music performances.
This new venue, which replaces Craft near the canal at the convention centre, offers vinyl and CDs from artists signed to the brand’s own PX Records label. The collection includes music from artists like Jack Garratt and Matt Johnson, the keyboardist for Jamiroquai, as well as the soul group Mamas Gun.
In addition to serving its well-known pizzas and famous dough balls, the new Pizza Express will host weekly “Live Sessions,” where local musicians will perform for diners and visitors to the convention centre. These performances are scheduled to take place every Thursday at 6 p.m.
The new location also includes an outdoor dining terrace overlooking the canal, just steps away from the iconic Black Sabbath Bridge. This gives diners a scenic view of Brindleyplace.
Ilham Tahmazov, the general manager of Pizza Express Birmingham ICC, expressed excitement about the opening: “Our pizzeria offers a stylish new space for locals to enjoy their Pizza Express favourites. In a city known for its heavy metal scene in the late ’60s, and as we approach our 60th anniversary, it feels fitting to celebrate our link to live music with our own record store, live performances, and a great menu. It’s the perfect spot for a family lunch, a meal with friends, or a fun night out.”
This is the third Pizza Express branch in Birmingham, joining locations in the Bullring and Harborne High Street. The opening of the ICC branch has also created 20 new jobs in the city.
