The ninth annual Apizza Feast and New Haven Grand Prix will take place in downtown New Haven this Friday, Sept. 13, from 4 to 10 p.m. The event, held along College Street, is organized by Taste of New Haven Food and Drink Tours, led by local historian and author Colin Caplan. Caplan, known for his works such as Pizza in New Haven, described the festival as “the best place to get a meal.”
The street festival will feature over two dozen food vendors, including iconic pizzerias like Sally’s Apizza and Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana. Chicago’s Professor Pizza will also be making an appearance, attempting to craft a New Haven-style pizza. Attendees will have a variety of options, with vegan, gluten-free pizzas available, along with non-pizza offerings such as Mexican and Middle Eastern cuisine.
A highlight of this year’s Apizza Feast is its attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest pizza party. The current record, set in 2023 by the World Pizza Champions in Tulsa, Oklahoma, stands at 3,357 people. Caplan and his team are hoping to surpass that number at the event.
