A popular North East pizza chain, I Scream for Pizza, has launched a new branch in Sunderland, leading to the creation of 20 jobs.
The new 60-seater restaurant is part of the Sheepfolds Stables development, offering customers a menu featuring New York-style pizzas, homemade ice cream, and weekend breakfast options.
The business initially opened its first restaurant on Newcastle’s quayside in 2021, after gaining popularity through a takeaway service developed during the pandemic. In addition to the new Sunderland branch, the chain operates a Scream for Pizza location in Sandyford, Newcastle, and also runs a mobile pizza van, specializing in Neapolitan-style pizzas.
Sarah Kilby, group operations manager for I Scream for Pizza, expressed excitement over the expansion: “Scream for Pizza started over ten years ago with our mobile pizza van. Now, we’ve opened our largest site to date, adding 20 new staff members in both front of house and kitchen roles.”
Kilby also highlighted the benefits of being part of the Sheepfolds Stables project, stating that the new location allowed them to expand their menu, offering new items such as weekend breakfasts and hot dogs made from locally sourced rare-breed pork.
The lease and licensing for the Sunderland outlet were arranged by North East law firm Sintons, with licensing specialist Sarah Smith securing the necessary permits for both I Scream for Pizza and the broader Sheepfolds site.
Smith commented on the success of the partnership, saying, “So many people contributed to the success of Sheepfolds Stables, and I Scream for Pizza has already become a favorite. We previously worked with the team for their quayside venue, and it’s been a pleasure to support this new stage of their growth.”
