Domino’s Pizza is seeking approval to open a new branch in Haxby, York, according to recently submitted planning documents. If approved, this would mark the fourth Domino’s location in the city.
The proposed site is the Haxby Fortune Inn Chinese Restaurant, located in Ryedale Court, The Village. The restaurant has been operating at this location since at least 2009.
Domino’s is requesting permission from the City of York Council to make internal and external changes to the property. The proposed modifications include new signage, updated extraction and ventilation systems, and minor exterior adjustments. The existing shopfront will remain, though it will be repaired and repainted, while other changes will be made to the rear of the building in less visible areas.
According to the planning documents, illuminated signage is considered appropriate given Domino’s reliance on evening trade, with peak hours falling between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., often after dark.
The building is located within the Haxby Conservation Area. However, the documents indicate that the proposed alterations are not expected to negatively impact the architectural or historical character of the area.
Domino’s currently operates in three other locations across York: Acomb, Hull Road, and Clifton Moor.
