Customers in Royal Wootton Bassett were left disappointed after discovering that the local Papa John’s had closed unexpectedly. The pizzeria shut its doors on Friday evening, yet customers continued to place online orders over the weekend through food delivery websites.
Many were left waiting for deliveries that would never arrive. One frustrated customer took to social media on Saturday, August 17, to warn others about the closure. The post stated, “Do not order food from Papa John’s in Royal Wootton Bassett – it closed down yesterday. But orders are still being taken via Just Eat.”
Another user commented, “We found that out tonight as well.”
The branch on Gainsborough Avenue showed no obvious signs of permanent closure, with no notices on the door or windows. However, a red Papa John’s T-shirt was found stuffed in the letterbox, and it lay on the floor during a visit by the Adver.
Although the firm’s website still lists the Royal Wootton Bassett location, it only indicates that it is “not currently accepting online orders.” A spokesperson for Papa John’s confirmed that the store has closed but did not rule out the possibility of reopening in the future.
The spokesperson stated, “We can confirm that the Papa John’s store in Royal Wootton Bassett has permanently closed.” They also assured customers who had paid for unfulfilled orders that they would receive refunds.
“While the store has been closed, some customers were still able to place orders through food delivery platforms – these customers will all be issued with a refund,” the spokesperson added.
There are two remaining Papa John’s locations in Swindon and the surrounding area, one on Victoria Road and the other on Moredon Road. The spokesperson hinted at the possibility of the Bassett store returning, saying, “We’re grateful to all of our loyal customers in Royal Wootton Bassett and are currently exploring possibilities around new ownership.”
