Prince George, the 11-year-old heir to the British throne, has expressed an unexpected interest in a career in pizza-making. During a recent visit to Wiveton Hall Cafe in Norfolk with his mother, Kate Middleton, he was fascinated by the cafe’s wood-fired pizza oven. According to Desmond MacCarthy, the cafe’s owner, George excitedly exclaimed, “That’s what I want to do when I grow up!”

George visited the cafe with friends, as it is near Sandringham, where the royal family traditionally spends Christmas. The Wales family also has a country home called Anmer Hall nearby. MacCarthy described George as “a sweet boy.”

The Wales family enjoys pizza together. Last year, George was spotted enjoying a slice during a cricket match. In 2018, Kate mentioned that her older children, George and Princess Charlotte, love to make pizza dough. She revealed her favorite pizza topping is bacon during a royal engagement in 2019. Last year, Kate and Prince William ordered 12 pizzas for volunteers at Dowlais Rugby Club.

The family often makes homemade pizzas. While preparing food for the Commonwealth Big Lunch in 2018, Kate said pizza is their favorite meal. “I’ve done that with George and Charlotte — making pizza dough,” she noted, adding that the children enjoy getting their hands messy.

Kate also playfully teased Prince William about his pizza habits. During a military outing in 2018, she called him a “nightmare” for eating pizza on their couch. William jokingly asked her to keep pizza off their bright yellow sofas.

During a visit to Lavender Primary School in 2019, Kate shared that her children love cooking. Headmaster Matthew Kleiner-Mann noted that George and Charlotte enjoy making cheesy pasta and salads.

In a 2023 interview on BBC Radio 1, Kate said that when it’s her turn to cook dinner, she usually makes dishes like curry or teriyaki salmon. Prince William joked that he prefers less spicy food, as he tends to sweat when it’s too spicy.

Kate also shared a personal tradition in 2021, saying she bakes a cake for each of her children’s birthdays. “I stay up ‘til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing,” she said, laughing that she often makes too much.

Unfortunately for George, he won’t have the chance to work at Wiveton Hall Cafe, which is set to close next month after 17 years in business. However, as noted in Robert Hardman’s book King Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, Prince George may have more freedom in shaping his royal path than previous generations.

Hardman wrote that unlike King Charles III, who had a predetermined future, Prince William was allowed some autonomy in his education and royal duties. He intends for Prince George to have even greater involvement in developing his own royal role.
