Celebrity chef Tony Gemignani is expanding his brand in Utah with the opening of Slice House. The fast-casual pizza franchise announced on Monday that it plans to launch a new location in the remodeled Foothill Village in Salt Lake City by the end of this year. This will be the first Slice House in the Beehive State, with six additional locations planned for the future.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with our dedicated partners, Bob Baker and Don Lewandowski, to bring memorable pizza experiences to such a bustling metropolitan area,” Gemignani said in a statement.
Gemignani has been in the pizza industry for over 30 years, winning 13 world pizza championships. He also founded the World Pizza Champions in 2005, a group that promotes the art of pizza making.
He has appeared on several food shows on networks like Food Network, CNN, and Travel Channel, and has opened multiple award-winning restaurants over the years.
Slice House, which he opened in 2010, serves New York, Sicilian, Grandma, and Detroit-style pizzas, available by the slice or as whole pies. The first location was a small spot in San Francisco, but it has since expanded to over a dozen locations in California and Nevada.
The new Salt Lake City location will be at 1332 S. Foothill Drive and is part of Gemignani’s plan to grow the brand across the country. Last year, he announced plans for over 100 new franchises, including locations in Utah.
“It’s something really special to see. I’m so proud of my team and what we have accomplished,” he posted on Instagram.
Currently, the company lists seven Utah locations in development, although details about these sites have not been disclosed. The Salt Lake City location is set to open in December and will offer pasta, wings, salads, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
“We are confident that Slice House will quickly become a local favorite in the area,” said Lewandowski, a co-franchise owner.
Slice House is the latest restaurant to join Foothill Village, which is undergoing renovations. Recently, Flower Child, founded by James Beard-nominated chef Sam Fox, opened its first Utah location in the same strip mall. Slice House will also be located near a new Shake Shack, which is building its latest location in Utah.
Gemignani is not the only celebrity chef bringing his brand to Utah. Recently, Bobby Flay’s Bobby’s Burgers announced plans to open nine restaurants across the state, starting with a location in Orem.
