Pizza Hut has recently pulled a prank on its customers in the Middle East by introducing a new frozen pizza range that actually contains no pizza. This creative stunt was executed in collaboration with Publicis Middle East to highlight the restaurant’s commitment to fresh dough.
The prank involved placing empty frozen pizza boxes in select supermarkets across the region. Customers were surprised to find that when they opened the boxes, they contained only a note explaining the absence of pizza. The note read, “Sorry, we don’t do frozen pizzas. Our dough is freshly made every single day. But don’t worry, here’s a voucher to get a fresh one on our app.”
Augusto Correia, creative director for Pizza Hut at Publicis Middle East, explained the reasoning behind the prank. He stated, “We wanted to humorously point out that even when Pizza Hut does frozen pizzas, they don’t. Many people assume our dough is pre-made and frozen. We aimed to prove that wrong with a surprising approach.”
Correia added that the stunt was not just meant to be humorous; it also served to debunk a common misconception about the Quick Service Restaurant industry.
Beverley D’Cruz, general manager for the Middle East and Pakistan at Pizza Hut, emphasized the importance of engaging consumers. “In today’s world, consumers are overwhelmed with information about food quality. We wanted to showcase our commitment to freshness. Surprising people helps them pay attention and remember our message.”
