Lucatelli’s, a popular pizza place in Doylestown, is set to close for renovations starting November 4. Owner Dave Schiano opened the shop almost three years ago, inspired by his childhood experiences working at his father’s pizzeria.
Since its opening, Lucatelli’s has developed a strong customer base. The restaurant’s popularity surged last fall after a visit from David Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports and One Bite Pizza, which helped attract new customers.
“Once Portnoy came, it really put us on the map,” Schiano said. “We realized our kitchen was too small, and we needed to expand.”
To accommodate growth, Lucatelli’s will be expanding into the space next door in the Mercer Square shopping center. Schiano expressed gratitude for the community’s support and noted the growth has been a blessing.
Lucatelli’s will close after service on November 3. Schiano hopes the renovations will take two to three weeks, but he could not provide an exact reopening date.
The expansion will add 1,200 square feet, increasing the total space to 2,800 square feet. Customers can expect an expanded dining area with 60 seats, new self-service kiosks, and a continuation of the Vespa theme.
The most significant changes will occur in the kitchen, which will be larger and equipped with more storage and new equipment. “The only negativity we’ve had was the wait times, and we wanted to fix that,” Schiano said. “This will help us serve our customers better and handle busy periods more efficiently.”
Schiano expressed his gratitude for his staff and loyal patrons. He acknowledged feeling nervous about the closure but believes the renovations will be worth it in the end.
