Canadians excel at various things, such as ice hockey, being polite, and adding “eh” to their sentences. However, they are now putting a new spin on a classic dish—pizza—and it has the internet buzzing with mixed reactions.
The surprising twist comes from an 18-year-old resident of Windsor, Ontario, who shared a photo of a pizza topped with shredded pepperoni. “Fun fact about Ontario is that we shred our pepperoni before putting it on pizza,” he wrote, leaving others to debate whether this is a fun fact or an oddity.
The photo caught many people’s attention, sparking varied responses. One user on X praised the idea, saying, “I hate halfway biting into a slice only to pull out an entire disc of pepperoni. Shredded pepperoni would allow it to get crispy instead of hard.”
The Windsor resident clarified that this trend is more common in his city than across all of Ontario. He pointed out that shredding the pepperoni allows for a salty, spicy flavor in every bite.
As for whether this trend will catch on, only time will tell. However, Canadians have already embraced Detroit-style pizza, which features cheese baked right to the edge, suggesting a growing interest in diverse pizza styles.
One commenter mentioned that they had seen shredded pepperoni in Germany and the UK but noted that it is never found in Rome, Italy, the birthplace of pizza. Yet another user simply remarked, “we’ll allow it.”
As Canadians continue to innovate their pizza traditions, the world watches with curiosity.
