The 9th edition of the World Week of Italian Cuisine will take place from November 16-22, 2024. Organized by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, this year’s theme is “Mediterranean Diet: Health and Traditions.” The event focuses on Italy’s rich culinary heritage and the Mediterranean diet, which UNESCO recognizes as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. The Mediterranean diet is celebrated for being healthy, affordable, and environmentally sustainable.
In Georgia, the week will highlight the cuisine of the Campania region, continuing the Italian Embassy’s initiative to promote Campania through art, education, and now, food.
The Italian Embassy in Georgia, in collaboration with the Italian Trade Promotion Agency (ICE-ITA) in Tbilisi, and supported by several sponsors and partners, will host the following events:
November 17: Pizza Festival
The festivities will kick off with a pizza celebration at ExpoGeorgia starting at 4:00 p.m. (free entry). The event includes a pizza-making masterclass by Italian chefs, a competition among local pizzeria chefs, and tastings of various pizza styles. Attendees will get a chance to observe the pizza-making process, sample Italy’s famous dish made with natural ingredients, and enjoy some of the best pizza in Tbilisi.
November 18: Gala Dinner
A gala dinner will showcase the exquisite flavors of Campania. Chef Salvatore La Ragione, from the Michelin-starred restaurant Mammà, and Diego Buttiglione, Masterchef Italia finalist, will curate a special menu. Classical music performances by soprano Marika Gulordava, tenor Armaz Darashvili, and pianist Temur Eliava will accompany the dinner, making it a unique and memorable experience.
November 19: Culinary Masterclass
Chef Diego Buttiglione and representatives from the renowned Molino Casillo flour company will conduct a masterclass at the Culinary Academy of the Agrarian University of Georgia for aspiring chefs.
November 20: Mozzarella and Pasta Sculptures Seminar
Domenico Raimondo, president of the Consorzio Tutela Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, will host a seminar for enogastronomy professionals, including restaurant and supermarket chain representatives. The seminar will include a tasting of Campania delicacies and a pasta sculpture exhibition by students from the Dante Art School. The “Macaroni Crafts” competition, organized by the Italian Embassy and the Tbilisi Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society, will also be part of the event, ending with an award ceremony for the best sculpture.
Later that day, Chef Salvatore La Ragione and Molino Casillo will hold a culinary demonstration and masterclass for restaurant owners and industry professionals.
November 16-22: Special Menus and Events
Throughout the week, several Italian restaurants and major supermarkets in Tbilisi will offer special dishes and events celebrating Italian cuisine.
